Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 16, 2025, received Sep 17, 2025, about the structure. It names 10 model years (2020–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Complaint Bulging and contact of the rear spoiler when hatch is opened (picture 1-1). When opening the rear hatch, the rear spoiler rests at the roof edge, which can result in damage to the rear spoiler and roof if the hatch is forcefully opened when the rear spoiler is bulged over (picture 1-2). Cause In the event of higher outside temperatures, the spoiler of the rear-end door thermally expands and may be above the roof by several millimeters. When opening the rear hatch when the rear spoiler is in a bulged condition, this can result in a collision between the rear spoiler and the roof edge. The cause may be related to fastening clips of the rear spoiler that have become loose. Remedy Remove rear spoiler, replace all fastening clips. Install rear spoiler again. In the event of damage, repair the vehicle. After assembly of the rear spoiler, check whether the clip is completely locked: When the rear-end door is open, press against the rear spoiler with your thumbs with around 5 kg of pressure (picture) 4). If it is possible to easily press the rear spoiler against the roof edge, the clip is not locked or may be damaged.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (4 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mercedes-Benz’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Owners of the 10 model years this bulletin names have filed 269 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 18 of them name Structure — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

NHTSA Recall 26V481 (Mercedes-Benz recall no. Interim owner notification letter dated September 18, 2026, titled "Replace Driver Door Lock." The micro-switch in the driver door lock may corrode and fail to detect an open driver door, which can prevent the electronic parking brake or "Auto-Park" feature from engaging automatically.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mercedes-Benz LI72.20-P-079685 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the LI72.20-P-079685 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mercedes-Benz warranty extension on file lists the ones Mercedes-Benz has filed.

Which vehicles does LI72.20-P-079685 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 10 model years: 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQB, 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQB, 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB, 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQB, 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class, 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
