Mercedes-Benz bulletin 2024020014
Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a emissions communication dated Jul 18, 2024, received Jul 25, 2024, about the electrical system. It names 6 model years (2023–2024). A emissions communication is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationMercedes-Benz AG ("MBAG"), the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain Model Year (“MY) 2023 -2024 GLC (254 platform), C-Class (206 platform), CLE (236 platform), E-Class (214 platform) and S-Class (223 platform) vehicles, the 48-volt battery module (BMS) control unit software does not correspond to the current series production configuration. It is therefore possible that the battery's state of health is calculated incorrectly, thereby falsely illuminating check engine light ‘MIL’ (malfunction indicator lamp).

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.
