Mazda bulletin 01-004-26

What it saysThis bulletin supersedes the previously issued bulletin(s) listed below. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Feb 26, 2026, received Mar 3, 2026, about the engine. It names 7 model years (2021–2022). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

This bulletin supersedes the previously issued bulletin(s) listed below. The changes are noted below in Red. 01-007/24 06/20/24 ENGINE OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT ON WITH DTC P250F:00 DUE TO LOW ENGINE OIL LEVEL (UPDATED WITH SSPD5 INFORMATION). All Mazda Dealers: Follow the Special Service Program SSPD5 – Valve Stem Seal Class Action for determination if valve stem seals should be replaced. 1. Verify the customer concern following the Special Service Program SSPD5 Repair Procedure. As the repair procedure states in SSPD5, confirm the engine oil is not leaking from the engine. If the customer reports engine oil is low upon arrival at a dealer, replace the valve stem seals following the flow chart for SSPD5. If engine oil is low upon arrival with no customer complaint, check for SSPD5 and if the valve stem seals have not been replaced under prior Warranty, replace the seals. If the valve stem seals have been replaced under a prior Warranty claim, contact Hotline for further instructions. If valve stem seals need to be replaced, replace the valve seals of the exhaust side with improved ones using the special tools called out in the repair procedures below. 2. Top off the engine oil (if needed). NOTE: Engine oil should not be topped off without replacement of the valve stem seals. 3. Verify the repair. NOTE: If unsure what steps to take during a customer visit for oil consumption related to SSPD5, fill out Dealer Recall Help on OneMazda.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (52 pages), read Sep 29, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mazda’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 7 model years this bulletin names have filed 418 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 195 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

At around 26,528 miles my 2022 CX-30 2.5s (not the turbo) developed a "Low Oil Pressure" warning while driving between 55-65mph on 07/06/2025. The car has had regular oil and filter changes about every 5K miles. The last oil and filter change was at 25,259 mileage on 05/25/2025. There aren't any visible oil leaks.

2022 Mazda CX-30 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Jul 6, 2025 · ODI 11671440

My car displayed a low oil level light between oil changes and after checking the dipstick it was low. No sign of visible oil leak so upon further research I was made aware of a TSB about defective valve seals causing excessive oil consumption. My cars VIN is in the affected range outlined in the TSB.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mazda 01-004-26 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 01-004-26 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mazda warranty extension on file lists the ones Mazda has filed.

Which vehicles does 01-004-26 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 7 model years: 2022 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda CX-30, 2021 Mazda CX-5, 2021 Mazda CX-9, 2022 Mazda Mazda3, 2021 Mazda Mazda3 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built 12 Oct 2020 – 13 Sep 2021; built 8 Dec 2020 – 16 Jun 2022; built 7 Dec 2020 – 30 Jun 2022 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
