Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Apr 22, 2023, received May 31, 2022, about the electrical system — 5 documents under this number. It names 43 model years across Jeep and Ram (2016–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 27 model years this bulletin names have filed 14,138 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 3,142 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Ram 1500, the 99 owners who gave an odometer reading for Electrical System reported it at a median of 19,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

On 09/07/2017, I was backing up my vehicle in a tight spot at my condo parking garage. I pulled forward and shifted the electronic gear selector to "park" so I could get out of the vehicle and check the clearance. When I was half way out the vehicle it started backing up but fortunately I was able to jump back in without physical injury.

I was notified of the Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor not being installed in the exhaust aftertreatment system of my vehicle on a post delivery survey I received. Driving highway speed and truck shut off completely. Took to dealer, no issues found. 800 miles later driving highway speed truck shut off again. Took to dealer, no issues found so far. Complete loss of power, power steering, power brakes, etc. Display read, "Press brake and push button to start" while coasting in neutral both times

2021 Ram 2500 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Dec 2, 2021

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Stellantis S2208000080 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2208000080 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does S2208000080 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 43 model years across 2 brands (Jeep and Ram): 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2023 Jeep Wrangler, 2023 Ram 1500, 2022 Ram 1500, 2021 Ram 1500 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
