Hyundai filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated May 30, 2025, received Jun 3, 2025, about the power train — 1 document under this number: 25-AT-001H TSB. It names 5 model years (2021–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWhat it applies to, as NHTSA’s summary states it — build dates and equipment as the manufacturer filed them. The dealer checks the VIN and the build date on the door jamb; a vehicle outside the window is not covered by this bulletin.
Certain Santa Fe (TMA) and Sonata (DN8/DN8A) vehicles equipped with 8-speed dual clutch transmissions (8DCT) may exhibit one of the DTCs listed below, related to the high pressure electric oil pump (HP EOP). Follow the procedures in this TSB to update the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to the latest sensorless logic on affected vehicles, and then perform air bleeding and transmission learning.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,054 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 249 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
On the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, the 12 owners who gave an odometer reading for Power Train reported it at a median of 21,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.
I have been taking my 21 Santa Fe hybrid limited into the dealership for a year and a half for the same code . Powertrain code P040B00, and to this day they can not repair this issue. I looked it up and a ton of us are having issues with this same code. It should be investigated, and customers should be warned.

Two issues with powertrain/transmission: 1- The powertrain/transmission fails intermittently- vehicle RPM goes sky high but vehicle receives no power, seems to fail/lose power. A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Hyundai 25-AT-001H a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 25-AT-001H repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Hyundai warranty extension on file lists the ones Hyundai has filed.
Which vehicles does 25-AT-001H cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years: 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2022 Hyundai Sonata, 2021 Hyundai Sonata. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
