GM bulletin PIP6003C

What it saysThis Preliminary information communicates a known concern with the high pressure fuel pump and potential injector contamination. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Dec 17, 2024, received Dec 20, 2024, about the fuel/propulsion system. It names 4 model years across Chevrolet and GMC (2023–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 387 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 111 of them name Fuel/Propulsion System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On , about 400 miles into our trip heading South on , the Engine Reduced Power Warning came on. We were in the fast lane traveling at 70 MPH,the car immediately slowed to about 30 mph. There was no prior warning or check engine light. Vehicles behind us had to swerved and change lanes to avoid hitting us.

2024 Chevrolet Equinox · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jul 8, 2025 · ODI 11672055

Traveling 75 mph on a 3-lane highway when the car jerked (as if it was downshifted), started to rattle, and then ultimately a CE came on with the "Engine Power Reduced" warning on the dash. After a few close calls trying to merge over to the breakdown lane, I was able to rest safely and call for a tow.

2023 Chevrolet Equinox · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Jan 10, 2024 · ODI 11564698

Car reduced speed and smells of gas. Will not crank and will stall immediately and just stops immediately. Car has only 30,000 miles and it has stalled out for the second time with the same issue. The first time the car stalled on the freeway and I was almost hit from the back.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PIP6003C a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIP6003C repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every GM warranty extension on file lists the ones GM has filed.

Which vehicles does PIP6003C cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 4 model years across 2 brands (Chevrolet and GMC): 2024 Chevrolet Equinox, 2023 Chevrolet Equinox, 2024 GMC Terrain, 2023 GMC Terrain. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
