What the bulletin says

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician on how to diagnose and repair vehicles that may have rattle or ticking noise that is louder inside the vehicle than outside. The noise may also sound like a lifter tick. If the noise is heard best at the fuel line and the sound will be real loud with a stethoscope. The fuel line will need to be replaced.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Owners of the 20 model years this bulletin names have filed 3,414 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 53 of them name Fuel/Propulsion System, Back Over Prevention — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The rods broke. The lifters are faulty and the power cuts off in the middle of driving. The car was taken back to the dealership and the cam shaft was replaced as well as the rods. However, after getting it back the car looses power and will not accelerate. It is currently in the shop as I type this complaint

2023 Chevrolet Camaro · Fuel/Propulsion System · filed with NHTSA Mar 31, 2025

When the vehicle is in reverse - the grid lines are so thin and faint, they are almost invisible. This greatly affects how close I reverse to another car or object. Also in reverse: There is no warning bell or chime when I am close to an object. The grid lines should be more pronounced

2022 Chevrolet Camaro · Back Over Prevention · filed with NHTSA Sep 7, 2022

Vehicle just shut off while in operation then would turn over but no start. Vehicle was towed to dealership and was advised fuel pump failed and would be covered under warranty. Luckily vehicle was stationary but was in prepartion for a vacation pulling our 5th wheel camper.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Chevrolet PIP5395G a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIP5395G repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PIP5395G cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 20 model years: 2023 Chevrolet Camaro, 2022 Chevrolet Camaro, 2021 Chevrolet Camaro, 2020 Chevrolet Camaro, 2019 Chevrolet Camaro, 2018 Chevrolet Camaro and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
