BMW service campaign 0061760800

What it saysA manufacturing defect in high-voltage cells of the high-voltage battery can result in electrolyte leakage which might result in a conductive connection with surrounding components. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

BMW filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Sep 24, 2024, received Sep 29, 2024, about the electrical system — 1 document under this number: B611824. It names 3 model years (2024). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says

2024 -2025 BMW on or after 5 Feb 2024 “Produced between February 5, 2024”
G26 i4 Gran Coupe Battery Electric 5 Feb 2024 – 24 Apr 2024 “G26 i4 Gran Coupe Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) February 5, 2024 – April 24, 2024”
G60 i5 Sedan BEV 15 Feb 2024 – 19 Jun 2024 “G60 i5 Sedan BEV February 15, 2024 – June 19, 2024”
G70 i7 Sedan BEV 4 Apr 2024 – 19 Jul 2024 “G70 i7 Sedan BEV April 4, 2024 – July 19, 2024”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

A manufacturing defect in high-voltage cells of the high-voltage battery can result in electrolyte leakage which might result in a conductive connection with surrounding components. Depending on the contact resistance, a yellow or red Check Control message will then be displayed; it is permitted for you to continue driving, but this will result in a charging interruption during charging.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (22 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches BMW’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 62 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 15 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

This is the 4th time I am having issues with this car. Major safety issues. Yesterday during during on the 405 freeway. It suddenly started to rain, the wiper malfunction while in traffic and pouring rain. A week before this incident, the steering of the car kept moving suddenly out of my line. This time my son was in the car.

2024 BMW i7 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Sep 3, 2025 · ODI 11684707

I am reporting a serious and recurring safety issue with my 2024 BMW i4, which I leased new in December 2023. The vehicle currently has approximately 20,000 miles and has stalled multiple times at high speeds, displaying a drivetrain malfunction warning and issues related to the power supply and high-voltage battery system.

2024 BMW i4 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Aug 1, 2025 · ODI 11677901

The vehicle has had intermittent charging issues where when the battery is below a certain level, it will fail to fully charge. I took it to the dealership and the technician admitted there has been issues with the charging cables and asked me to return with pictures of the error codes.

2024 BMW i5 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Oct 15, 2026 · ODI 11771462

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is BMW 0061760800 a recall?

No. A service campaign is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 0061760800 repair free?

A service campaign is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

Which vehicles does 0061760800 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 3 model years: 2024 BMW i4, 2024 BMW i5, 2024 BMW i7. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: 2024 -2025 BMW: built on or after 5 Feb 2024; G26 i4 Gran Coupe Battery Electric: built 5 Feb 2024 – 24 Apr 2024; G60 i5 Sedan BEV: built 15 Feb 2024 – 19 Jun 2024 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
