Volkswagen Taos fuel system problems, 2022–2027
84 of the 493 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Volkswagen Taos 2022–2027 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2022 (63), 2023 (12), 2024 (7). Filed under the same heading across these years: 3 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.

In owners’ own words

My 2022 VW Taos suddenly began to lose acceleration and the check engine light and EPC light came on. Upon contacting the dealership, they said there is a recall on my car for the exact issues, however they do not have any parts to fix it and do not have an ETA of when it can be fixed.
I purchased this vehicle a year ago for my 17 year old daughter. The initial test drive through slow suburban streets was not sufficient to identify the major acceleration issue that has persisted while owning this car. There is a significant lag in response time when pressing the accelerator.
I went to the Fiesta Albqueurque VW June 2025 multiple times resulting in close to 2 weeks without a car. Found a oil leak and head gasket - bolt jam replaced. In XXX, car shook, took it to first Fiesta ABQ, who identified a low battery charge.
I purchased a 2023 VW Taos SE about a year ago (May 2025) as CPO less than 7k miles. It is still under the warranty; however, I already had to bring this Taos to the VW dealership for 3x. First was A/C was not cool enough. They found a leak. In June 2026, I had to bring due to the engine light being on.
I am filing this complaint because Volkswagen is refusing to honor its factory powertrain warranty to cover a catastrophic internal engine failure on a vehicle with only 22,531 miles. The vehicle is well within its manufacturer's powertrain warranty limits.
