Mazda CX-90 steering problems, 2024–2026
197 of the 493 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Mazda CX-90 2024–2026 name the steering (NHTSA’s “Steering” heading — the steering column, rack, pump and power assist). The loudest years: 2024 (193), 2026 (2), 2025 (2). Filed under the same heading across these years: 2 recall campaigns, 1 NHTSA investigation. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the steering. Nothing here is a rate.

In owners’ own words

My Mazda had a recall due to faulty steering worm. We noticed the steering was getting unsafe and the steering column was replaced once in 2024. It is now having the same issues again. Almost 2 hours into a 14 hour road trip, we turned around and went home because the steering was sticking and jerky
The steering has become jerky despite a previous recall that was supposed to fix the issue. When driving at speed, changing lanes become dangerous because of the sudden jerky slip of the steering wheel as if it takes more effort to turn the wheel and suddenly jerks to the left or right
On multiple occasions, the steering wheel became stiff or locked while driving or during start-up, multiple dashboard warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle could not be shifted from Park to Drive. This occurred repeatedly since the vehicle was purchased.
The contact owns a 2026 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the steering wheel was pulling to the left, causing the vehicle to merge into the left lane unintendedly. The contact firmly held the steering wheel to prevent the failure.
It feels like the steering is pulling me off the road sometimes. It takes a lot of effort to recorrect the steering
