Ford Focus fuel system problems, 2016–2018
605 of the 2,931 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Ford Focus 2016–2018 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2016 (230), 2018 (197), 2017 (178). Filed under the same heading across these years: 3 recall campaigns, 1 NHTSA investigation. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.

I was driving my vehicle when all the sudden the car stopped speeding up. I kept hitting the breaks and all my car continued to do was slow down. After that then my car kept kicking back at me when I was trying to press on the gas again when I could hit the gas or turn on the car to start it was kicking back.
Check engine light came on and checked- diagnosis purge valve is stuck open which is allowing engine vacuum into the fuel tank which has flattened the fuel tank flat. There is currently a recall on 2018 Ford Focus for this same issue it just does not include my VIN. I would like to have it included in current recall
While driving around PM on Thursday, , the Focus Electric displayed a "Stop Safely Now" message and proceeded to cut power going to the electric motor, allowing the car only to coast as if it was in neutral. Luckily no vehicles were around in my lanes, as that easily could've caused an accident.
