Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the transmission and drivetrain. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

My Expedition was set to 45 mph via cruise control in a work zone, at night, on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. While in the first tunnel in the northbound lane with 2 way traffic, I heard a slight pop, then rough running feeling and completely lost acceleration. The power train wrench warning light came on.

While driving today my vehicle lost power and went into limp mode. the warning wrench came on. This is very dangerous, especially on the freeway. There is no where to get off and the vehicle slows to a stop in the middle of traffic. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it to reset the warning.

While driving the transmission cooler line failed and broke in half causing all the fluid to pump out of transmission immediately and caused the vehicle to stop moving on a very busy fast moving road. Vehicle has only 34000 miles on it and has been serviced only by Ford.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are transmission and drivetrain problems common on the 2017 Ford Expedition?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 51 owner complaints naming the transmission and drivetrain on this model year (14% of everything owners filed about it), and 13 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the transmission and drivetrain on the 2017 Ford Expedition?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 4 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do transmission and drivetrain problems show up on the 2017 Ford Expedition?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 65,000 miles; half of them between 38,000 and 107,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Power Train" heading cover?

The transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, axles and differentials — NHTSA files them under one heading. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
