Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the engine. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

The turbo cooler tube pops off when you accelerate. This causes the check engine light to come on and the vehicle to go into engine reduce power mode. Vehicle max speed will then be set to 45 - 55 miles an hour. I was able to push the tube back into place, it ran fine for another 100 miles than popped off again.

The duct from my turbo to the throttle body exploded while I was driving. Vehicle went to "reduced power mode". Speed was limited to 45 MPH. This issue is according to the dealer a "known problem". Someone is going to get killed by this problem. Thank god I was on a local road not a freeway. The service dept.

Engine at 213 miles May 31, 2019 NHTSA owner report
After leaving the dealership to have them put on the plate, the check engine light came on. I drove it to a secure location so I could get someone to follow me back to the dealership for service. The car did not have full power. When I went to pull out of the secure location , I took my foot off the brake and the car stopped.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are engine problems common on the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 105 owner complaints naming the engine on this model year (35% of everything owners filed about it), and 287 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the engine on the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 4 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do engine problems show up on the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 5,938 miles; half of them between 2,000 and 37,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
