Chevrolet Colorado engine problems, 2016–2026
217 of the 1,771 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Chevrolet Colorado 2016–2026 name the engine (NHTSA’s “Engine” heading — the engine and its cooling system). The loudest years: 2016 (50), 2017 (28), 2018 (24). Filed under the same heading across these years: no document yet. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the engine. Nothing here is a rate.

In owners’ own words

I have a 2016 chevy Colorado 4 cylinder truck at the dealer again. Had it in about 8-10 months ago on the engine reviving real high when coming to a stop. They said it was probably the hill assist system and nothing they could do. Now it's chronic. It can rev to 2200 rpms as I come to a stop.
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly hesitated when attempting to accelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer (ferman Chevrolet of tarbon springs) on several occasions, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
While traveling down the highway at 70-75 MPH a wrist pin failure occurred. This lead to a rod punching a hole in the bottom part of the engine, obviously I lost all engine power and had to coast to the side of the road in traffic.
I have a 2017 chevy Colorado diesel with approximately 50,000 miles where the diesel particulate sensor constantly fails. I had it replaced for the 4th time the last week in january and now its failed again. The code received is a P1476.
P2738 Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 6 Control Circuit Low Voltage. Whenever you drive, the transmission will go into limp mode every now and then. It will say low oil pressure and throw another code of P0700 MIL Request From TCM. This is a common issue that I have researched and would like to know a way forward.

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
