Chevrolet Camaro transmission and drivetrain problems, 2016–2024
164 of the 547 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Chevrolet Camaro 2016–2024 name the transmission and drivetrain (NHTSA’s “Power Train” heading — the transmission, transfer case, driveshafts, axles and differentials — NHTSA files them under one heading). The loudest years: 2017 (54), 2016 (48), 2019 (20). Filed under the same heading across these years: 2 recall campaigns. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the transmission and drivetrain. Nothing here is a rate.

In owners’ own words

Had a torque converter shudder which was fixed by updating to new GM fluids. After this service, around 1000 miles later I started experiencing hard shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Took it into service where they changed a valve body. This got rid of my hard shifts for about 1500 miles, then it came back even worse.
I purchased this car new in october, 2016. My transmission problems started soon after owning it, growing worse as time went on. The car would not shift, once it did, it lurched. It would miss shifting, lag, delay and roughly drive, even though being an automatic. The dealer only serviced new software updates; all else was ignored.
When driving, the vehicle will vibrate/shudder periodically. When pulling into traffic, sometimes it does not shift properly and presents a danger. The dealer flushed the transmission fluid recently, but it is starting to happen again
Issue 1 - 8 speed automatic transmision is shifting hard between gears and also has a shutter at low engine RPM between 1200 to 1500 RPM. The shutter will occur in most gears. Especially noticeable when using cruise control. It happens in all roads in all conditions and at various speeds + gear..
Was stoped at a stop sign. When I tried to accelerate the car acted like it didn’t want to go and the back wheels locked up causing a screeching noise. Before coming to the stop sign it felt like it was having a shuddering affect. Luckily there was no traffic and it finally shifted out but wouldn’t accelerate very well.
