Ram bulletin S2514000002 REV. A

What it saysLonger Than Expected, Extended Crank Time After Fuel Level Run Too Low Or After Fuel Filter/System Servicing. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Ram filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 31, 2026, received May 28, 2025, about the fuel/propulsion system — 2 documents under this number: S2514000002 and 1 more. It names 8 model years (2025–2026). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Longer Than Expected, Extended Crank Time After Fuel Level Run Too Low Or After Fuel Filter/System Servicing. Some customers may experience an extended crank condition. This concern may have been noticed after the vehicle has been run low/out of fuel, or after a recent fuel system repair such as filter replacement. This may also be noticed newer vehicles arriving from the assembly plant. Upon further investigation, the technician may also find Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2540 – Low Pressure Fuel System Sensor Circuit Performance set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The concern may be due to excess air being trapped in the fuel filter housing.

Trouble codes it names: P2540

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Owners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 157 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 14 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Purchased the truck new with 25 miles on it from the dealer. Within the first 2000 miles, I had a message pop up that said "Service Exhaust System See Dealer". I took it in to the dealer, they said it showed a random emission related code had popped up but was not currently active, so their recommendation was to clear it and see if it…

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ram S2514000002 REV. A a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2514000002 REV. A repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does S2514000002 REV. A cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 8 model years: 2026 Ram 2500, 2025 Ram 2500, 2026 Ram 3500, 2025 Ram 3500, 2025 Ram 4500, 2026 Ram 4500 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
