Nissan bulletin PD127

What it saysVOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN 2016-2019 TITAN XD DIESEL; VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL INTRODUCTION Nissan is conducting this voluntary emissions recall campaign on certain specific model year… NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Nissan filed this with NHTSA as an emissions communication dated Jan 31, 2025, received Feb 10, 2025, about the structure — 2 documents under this number: NTB24-063 (2 filings). It names 4 model years (2016–2019). An emissions communication is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

Picked out of NHTSA’s summary below, word for word. The document itself is the record, and the dealer checks the VIN.

2016-2019 Titan Diesel 7 Aug 2015 – 18 Oct 2018 “Manufactured from August 7, 2015 to October 18, 2018”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

VOLUNTARY EMISSIONS RECALL CAMPAIGN 2016-2019 TITAN XD DIESEL; VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION LABEL INTRODUCTION Nissan is conducting this voluntary emissions recall campaign on certain specific model year 2016-2019 Titan XD vehicles with Diesel engines to inspect and, if necessary, replace the Vehicle Emission Control Information Label. This service will be performed at no charge to the customer for parts or labor. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER Nissan has assigned identification number PD127 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communication and documentation of any nature dealing with this campaign. DEALER RESPONSIBILITY It is the dealer’s responsibility to check Service COMM or Dealer Business Systems (DBS) National Service History for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary emissions recall which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners and vehicles in a dealer’s inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (4 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Nissan’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 525 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 301 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2016 Nissan Titan XD, the 36 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 37,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Purchased new 2016 Nissan Titan Xd had severe downshift problem where vehicle would shift so abruptly it would feel like you slammed on brake pedal. Today while turning left from stop light a gas truck in first lane failed to stop at traffic light. I hit the accelerator to pull away and no throttle response at all.

I stopped to get diesel and pulled onto the interstate. Within 2 miles of being on the interstate, the engine felt as though it downshifted, lost power, and stalled in a construction one lane zone with no way to get out of traffic. The engine would no longer turn over and the truck would not start.

2019 Nissan Titan · Engine · filed with NHTSA Aug 15, 2024 · ODI 11608812

while I'm driving my truck, it has a Cummins Diesel engine, at certain times I guess that the engine goes through a regen process, when it odes this process then the cab is filled with noxious gases. This process last a few minutes and causes you to lower the windows to get rid of the toxic gases.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Nissan PD127 a recall?

No. A emissions communication is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PD127 repair free?

A emissions communication is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

Which vehicles does PD127 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 4 model years: 2019 Nissan Titan, 2018 Nissan Titan, 2017 Nissan Titan, 2016 Nissan Titan XD. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: 2016-2019 Titan Diesel: built 7 Aug 2015 – 18 Oct 2018 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
