Mitsubishi bulletin TSB-24-54-005

What it saysService Manual Revision -This Technical Service Bulletin provides corrections for Rear Motor removal and installation processes found in the Electric Power Train section within the applicable Service Manuals. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mitsubishi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 9, 2024, received Oct 9, 2024, about the electrical system — 3 documents under this number. It names 3 model years (2023–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 104 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 30 of them name Electrical System, Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

While on even a slight hill, sometimes the car rolls back if I am not moving forward. For example, if ai am stopped at a red light, the car will roll backwards (instead of not moving or going forward). It’s an automatic transmission so this should not occur. I.e. the transmission is already starting to go out b4 35k miles.

Check engine light is on. My car is still under 5 year bumper to bumper warranty. My local mitsubishi dealership closed and the nearest one is hours away. I also have a recall. I have called mitsubishi customer service several times only to be put on hold without the ability to talk to someone to get these problems solved

2023 Mitsubishi Outlander · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Jul 9, 2025 · ODI 11672356

My 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has experienced recurring, severe powertrain failures causing a dangerous 'PHEV System Fault / Power Reduced' limp mode at highway speeds, dropping instantly from 60+ MPH to severely restricted speeds. This creates an immediate risk of a high-speed rear-end collision.

2025 Mitsubishi Outlander · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Sep 15, 2026 · ODI 11764350

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mitsubishi TSB-24-54-005 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the TSB-24-54-005 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mitsubishi warranty extension on file lists the ones Mitsubishi has filed.

Which vehicles does TSB-24-54-005 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 3 model years: 2025 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander, 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
