Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Aug 22, 2023, received Sep 1, 2023, about the electrical system. It names 6 model years (2022–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationIn the instrument cluster, the symbol for "12 V battery" and the message "Switch on vehicle" may sporadically be displayed. As a consequence of this, the fault codes B 1 FCB97 (=> N73/3) and U 116000 (=> N73/3*1) are stored in the fault memory. In the subsequent analysis of the 12 Von-board electrical system data, the following parameters are conspicuous (see picture 1 in the attachment): ⢠Charge balance negative when stationary. ⢠Interior CAN bus is awake for an unusually long time. ⢠12 V battery SOC (state of charge) during subsequent engine start is 45% or less. NOTE: Once the 12 V battery SOC has exceeded 50% for the first time, the symbol and the message in the instrument cluster disappear again. The door control unit (N69/x) may sporadically keep the interior CAN bus awake. NOTE: Exclusively door control units with the HW item numbers A2239019917 and A2239010018 can be affected. Open a TIPS case and include the following: 1. Initial Quick Test 2. N73/3 EZS CUL 3. N73/3*1 EZS CUL 4. Date and time of occurrence

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 162 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 54 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
The electronic system, specifically the battery, failed and it is available for inspection upon request. The persistent battery drain caused the vehicle to become inoperable multiple times, including an incident where I was stranded 200 miles from home with my wife and dog, posing significant safety risks.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Mercedes-Benz Ll54.10-P-076823 a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the Ll54.10-P-076823 repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mercedes-Benz warranty extension on file lists the ones Mercedes-Benz has filed.
Which vehicles does Ll54.10-P-076823 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years: 2024 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, 2022 Mercedes-Benz AMG C63 S. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
