Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jan 24, 2025, received Sep 10, 2018, about the electrical system — 5 documents under this number: LI72 40-P-065822 (2 filings) and 3 more. It names 7 model years (2016–2019). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Complaint - Power window reverses direction on reaching upper end position. - Power window inoperative, fault code P060A64 / B18C12A / B192015 is stored in fault memory of door control unit. Cause - Software error in door control unit (N69/X). - Power window motor(s) on front door, left (M10/3) and/or front door, right (M10/4) => On vehicles with CODE 808, 809 or 800. Remedy 1.) Read out hardware version of affected door control unit (N69/X) using quick test (see Figure 1). => For door control units with hardware version equal to/higher than 16/20 (year/week), continue with operation step 2. => For door control units with hardware versions 13/49, 14/23, 14/24 and 14/30, continue with operation step 3. 2.) Replace affected power window motor (M10/X). IMPORTANT NOTE (see also SI document under WIS reference): For vehicles with CODE 808, 809 or 800, the only motors in stock are the new power window motors with modified carbon brushes for the front doors. For this reason, when replacing the power window motor left front door (M10/3) or the front right power window motor, it is also essential to adapt the power window parameters in the corresponding control unit, front door, left (N69/1) or control unit, front door, right (N69/2). When doing so, the following procedure must be followed: a) Replace power window motor(s) on front door, left (M10/3) and/or right (M10/4). b) Carry out commissioning of the door control unit(s) for the front door, left (N69/1) and/or right (N69/2) using Xentry Diagnostics. c) Then perform a function test on the power window system by operating the power window switch in the direction of "AUTOMATIC DOWN" and "AUTOMATIC UP"to fully open and close the side window. Note: Only replace the power window motor if the door control unit hardware version is 16/20! 3.) Perform commissioning of affected door control unit. (Path: Xentry Diagnostics => Control units view => DCU-XX (N69/X) => Adaptations => Commission) Note: Since 09.08.2018, a new SCN coding is available for the current software release! Commissioning ensures that the door control unit receives the current software release and the new SCN coding.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (4 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mercedes-Benz’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Doing the repair yourself, or pricing it before the shop does? Search the part by fitment on eBay Motors — the listing and the price are the seller’s.

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 297 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 53 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mercedes-Benz LI72.40-P-065822 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the LI72.40-P-065822 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mercedes-Benz warranty extension on file lists the ones Mercedes-Benz has filed.

Which vehicles does LI72.40-P-065822 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 7 model years: 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class, 2016 Mercedes-Benz E213, 2017 Mercedes-Benz E213, 2018 Mercedes-Benz E213 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
