Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 20, 2024, received Dec 4, 2024, about the power train. It names 2 model years (2023–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Pre-Case creation for 725.0/.1 Transmissions Complaint: To insure vehicle down time is kept at a minimum and all required information is available when case is escalated, as well as assist technicians with checks that may help lead in resolving issue without case creation. THIS LI IS NOT TO BE USED AS A REASON FOR CASE CREATION BUT AS A GUIDE IF A CASE IS NEEDED Cause: There are, at times, additional steps workshops can do to help diagnose and rectify transmission complaints. Remedy: When opening a case for transmissions a EEPROM, Quick Test, and VGS CUL are absolutely necessary Please also check for any relevant LI’s before opening case. Also, recommend having customer fill out Transmission Drivability Diagnostic Worksheet especially if complaint is hard to reproduce or intermittent (Work sheet Location: Xentry Portal >> Local Contents >> Diagnostic Info>> Diagnostic Worksheets ) If a previous repair attempt or visit was made for the same concern please include the date, mileage, and case num- ber if applicable of that repair/visit with a short description of what was done. Follow IPR: ( LI27.00-P-073124 ) All IPR suggestions are covered by warranty and there is no need for cases to con- firm IPR. Complete IPR suggestions and close out IPR process. If complaint is not fixed and IPR still suggests the sa- me repair once closed out and run again, then a case may be needed. Transmission Health page is a good indicator of issues within transmission if clutch or brake pack stays NOK after ad- aptions and unable to be made to a green OK then an internal fault is present. Proceed with replacing affected clutch pack.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 54 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 11 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) and corresponding fuel delivery pressure regulator/sensors have suffered an internal mechanical failure. The system intermittently fails to maintain commanded rail pressure, leading to critical engine cylinder misfires (P0302, P0304) and severe long-term fuel adaptation breaches (P00C600, P008992…

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mercedes-Benz LI27.00-N-078611 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the LI27.00-N-078611 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mercedes-Benz warranty extension on file lists the ones Mercedes-Benz has filed.

Which vehicles does LI27.00-N-078611 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
