Jeep bulletin S2323000071

What it saysFront Door Window Will Not Roll Down All The Way. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Jeep filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 8, 2023, received Oct 30, 2023, about the visibility/wiper — 2 documents under this number. It names 11 model years (2018–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 11 model years this bulletin names have filed 6,878 complaints with NHTSA since 2015.

On the 2019 Jeep Wrangler, the 14 owners who gave an odometer reading for Visibility/Wiper reported it at a median of 9,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

The front defrost fails to blow any air on the windshield directly in front of the drivers seat, causing visibility issues in winter weather or whenever the windshield fogs up. The vehicle was brought to the dealer and the dealer indicated that the defrost is working as normal and that they just don’t blow air anywhere but in the center.

I was driving in fog with ambient temperatures of approximately 9 degrees, windshield iced over approximately 2/3rds from the outside in with only the middle of the windshield clear, front defroster only was on maximum, with no air flow to anywhere else, but would not clear the windshield in front of the driver nor the passenger side.

2021 Jeep Wrangler · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Feb 12, 2021 · ODI 11395953

On may 08 2019 I purchased a 2020 Jeep Gladiator . 2 day later my wife and I drove it to myrtle beach sc roughly 850 miles. Immediately we noticed when we go on the highway the washer fluid was not spraying more than 4 inches up from the bottom of the windshield. Needless to say we were lucky our trip had very little rain.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Jeep S2323000071 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2323000071 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does S2323000071 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 11 model years: 2023 Jeep Gladiator, 2022 Jeep Gladiator, 2021 Jeep Gladiator, 2020 Jeep Gladiator Pickup, 2024 Jeep Wrangler, 2023 Jeep Wrangler and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
