Infiniti bulletin ITB17-001E

What it saysFluid leak caused by transfer assembly right side drive shaft OIL seal this bulletin has been amended. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Infiniti filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Dec 13, 2023, received Jan 9, 2024, about the power train. It names 14 model years (2016–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 13 model years this bulletin names have filed 457 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 78 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The contact owned a 2021 Infiniti QX50. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, he collided with another vehicle on the rear driver's side of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was thrust off the roadway, coming to a complete stop after colliding with a pole, and the front passenger side wheel disconnected from the axle.

2016 Infiniti QX60 93,000 miles The battery light was on. I have noticed that my CVT transmission goes into limp mode. This has happened several times with no help from infiniti. I can only go 10MPH and it revs only 1000 RPM, then it'll be fine after I turn off and on again. Had battery and alternator checked and they're 100% good.

Every single one of these 2.0 litre engines should be recalled. My partner has a 2022 QX50 and the long engine should be replaced. On May 18, 2025, my QX55 with 16,500 miles that I was absolutely perfect in servicing suddenly started losing power, grinding, then the oil light came on, followed by the check engine light.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Infiniti ITB17-001E a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the ITB17-001E repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does ITB17-001E cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 14 model years: 2024 Infiniti QX50, 2022 Infiniti QX50, 2021 Infiniti QX50, 2020 Infiniti QX50, 2019 Infiniti QX50, 2024 Infiniti QX55 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
