Ford filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 6, 2026, received Mar 11, 2026, about the service brakes. It names 3 model years (2022–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Some 2022-2024 Maverick hybrid vehicles may continue to exhibit a no crank/no start condition due to a 12V battery drain after performing the air conditioning control module (ACCM) software update. This may be due the brake pad self-adjustment routine being run by anti-lock brake system (ABS) module software. Inform customers engineering is aware of this condition and is currently developing an ABS module software update that is expected to be available in late Q2 of 2026. To avoid this 12V battery drain condition, inform customers that they can apply the parking brake when the vehicle is turned off. This will prevent the ABS module from running the self-adjustment routine.

If a vehicle comes in for this condition and ABS software is not suspected, refer to the "Discharged Battery/12-Volt Battery Drain Check" General Service Bulletin (GSB) and monitor Professional Technician System (PTS) for additional information. Schedule service appointments for customers once the repair becomes available. If a vehicle exhibits this concern, submit a Global Concern Report (GCR).

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,148 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 164 of them name Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. The contact owns a 2023 Ford Maverick. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop immediately. The contact firmly depressed the brake pedal and was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired.

It happened twice in 3 days. The first time I lost electrical power, the battery died. I use a trickle charger to recharge it for 4 hours, then it functioned as normal for one day, I went to the dealer for service and they looked at it and said there was nothing wrong and sent me home. On the third day, it died again.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ford SSM 54632 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SSM 54632 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SSM 54632 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 3 model years: 2024 Ford Maverick, 2023 Ford Maverick, 2022 Ford Maverick. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
