GM bulletin PIT6103

What it saysThis Preliminary Information communicates a possible issue with the power windows and object sensor indicators caused by a window switch. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

GM filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Dec 13, 2023, received Jan 29, 2024, about the visibility/wiper. It names 2 model years across Chevrolet and GMC (2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 198 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 63 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he became aware that the defroster had failed to properly defrost the windshield. The contact also stated that because of the failure, the windshield wipers had failed to function properly after becoming frozen.

2023 GMC Canyon · Visibility/Wiper · filed with NHTSA Apr 8, 2024

While driving the blindside indicators will come on when nothing is there. The window switches and door lock button on the driver side door will not work when the blindside indicators are on. Also the light on the door lock button turns on and off randomly when the indicators are on with nothing there.

2023 Chevrolet Colorado · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Dec 9, 2023

The theft alarm has gone off five times since I purchased the vehicle in September, dealership has been noted and has been in there for it and still goes off. Display screen froze up and did not reset until I was done driving and the vehicle was turned off for a while.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is GM PIT6103 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the PIT6103 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does PIT6103 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years across 2 brands (Chevrolet and GMC): 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, 2023 GMC Canyon. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
