Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the steering. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Wrangler. Within the first fifty miles of driving, the vehicle drifted from side to side. The failure occurred while driving 50 MPH or more. The failure remained and there was a lot of play in the steering wheel. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was performing normally.
Steering Feb 13, 2019 NHTSA owner report
Steering has a dead space, about a 1.5" to 2" until it starts turning. While going over 50mph it tends to drift away from the road. I'm constantly adjusting my steering
Steering at 200 miles Feb 2, 2019 NHTSA owner report
Steering stiffens up at 50mph and up. Unable to shift lanes,it loosens back suddenly when speeed drops to 30 and below causing car to sway if not paying attention
Steering at 200 miles Jan 30, 2019 NHTSA owner report
Loose steering, and wandering with extreme wobbling when hitting any variation in road surfaces. Certainly has an unsafe feeling at highway speeds. Something is not right in the design of either the steering boxes and or front end suspension components of this vehicle. Already had steering damper replaced with no improvements
Steering at 1,300 miles Jan 25, 2019 NHTSA owner report
I received the rubicon on 12/8/19. Less than 2k pavement miles later, on 1/7/19 I experienced severe intermittent power steering failure. I left work at 6p, 40 degrees, no precipitation. After driving 1/5 mile, 10 MPH, I pulled to a stop to yield on to a 4 lane highway.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are steering problems common on the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 446 owner complaints naming the steering on this model year (60% of everything owners filed about it), and 1 recall is filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the steering on the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

Yes — one campaign is filed under this heading: 19V201000. A recall is matched by VIN; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

When do steering problems show up on the 2019 Jeep Wrangler?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 4,500 miles; half of them between 1,000 and 13,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Steering" heading cover?

The steering column, rack, pump and power assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
