My 2017 Yukon is exhibiting the exact same brake behavior as the below complaint, but my vehicle is not eligible for the recall for some reason. NHTSA campaign number: 20v603. Gm's own number for this recall is n202300860

While pulling into a parking space, the brakes shuttered and they wouldn't hardly work. Almost couldn't get the vehicle stopped. A warning on my dash said "service brake assist." there was a recall issued in canada but non here for my vehicle so far. This is a dangerous safety hazard that needs to be fixed.

After sending my SUV for the brake recall(the brakes actually failed while I was driving) last month, my brakes failed again while driving out of my driveway, on wednesday 8/19 -on my way to work.. I drove straight to the dealership. Basically having to hard push the brakes on city streets stop lights etc. scary.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are brake problems common on the 2017 GMC Yukon?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 73 owner complaints naming the brakes on this model year (20% of everything owners filed about it), and 1 recall is filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the brakes on the 2017 GMC Yukon?

Yes — one campaign is filed under this heading: 19V645000. A recall is matched by VIN; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

When do brake problems show up on the 2017 GMC Yukon?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 59,000 miles; half of them between 45,000 and 76,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Service Brakes" heading cover?

The hydraulic brakes, ABS and brake assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
