Front steering death wobble at highway speeds after hitting small bump transitioning asphalt to concrete over bridge. Has happened multiple times over two weeks, to the point of losing control of vehicle. Extremely difficult to control and bring truck to a safe stop.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. While driving 60 MPH, the vehicle shook violently. The contact had to let up off the accelerator pedal to regain control of the vehicle and pulled off to the side of the road. The contact noticed that all of the steering components were very loose. The vehicle was not repaired.
I own a 2017 Ford F-350. This truck is fully stock, no mods of any kind. No abuse. Maintenance is always on time and tires are always rotated and balanced every 5000 miles. In may 2018, I was driving along a straight moderately bumpy road at about 40 miles per hour and my truck went into the death rattle.
While driving down the highway I hit a dip in the road and the steering wheel started shaking violently. I let off the gas and slowed down and the shaking stopped. I had approximately 10,000 miles on the truck. I avoid all bumps and dips now. It has happened 8 or 9 times.
On 3 different occasions while driving approx 60mph, I drove over a bump and the steering wheel/front end experienced uncontrollable shaking, commonly called a 'death wobble.' problem continued until I slowed the truck to 10 MPH. First time it happened the truck only had 17,000 miles.

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsAre steering problems common on the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
They are documented: NHTSA holds 292 owner complaints naming the steering on this model year (51% of everything owners filed about it), and 20 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.
Is there a recall for the steering on the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 13 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.
When do steering problems show up on the 2017 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 27,000 miles; half of them between 19,000 and 38,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Steering" heading cover?
The steering column, rack, pump and power assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
