The first time this happened we were driving back from nc to va on the interstate and the power steering went out. We got a message that said power steering lost drive with caution. The 2nd time this happened I was driving approximately 45 MPH on the highway and got the same message.

While in motion the cars power steering warning comes on & makes it almost impossible to turn the wheel. So when you turn car off it goes away but then comes on again while in motion. It has been in shop 3 times already & has yet to be fixed. It's already happened atleast 7 times & they still can't find or fix the problem

Common questions

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are steering problems common on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 58 owner complaints naming the steering on this model year (31% of everything owners filed about it), and 2 recalls are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the steering on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?

Yes — 2 campaigns are filed under this heading: 25V175000, 19V086000. A recall is matched by VIN; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

When do steering problems show up on the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 27,280 miles; half of them between 13,000 and 59,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Steering" heading cover?

The steering column, rack, pump and power assist. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
