Stellantis bulletin S2309000007

What it saysCustomer complaint may include a noise from under the hood described as a ?belt-related? noise. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Stellantis filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Sep 29, 2023, received Oct 30, 2023, about the engine — 2 documents under this number. It names 5 model years across Jeep and Ram (2022–2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 5 model years this bulletin names have filed 2,613 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 1,064 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2024 Jeep Wrangler, the 57 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 15,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

While driving and slowing for a traffic light, my 2023 Ram 1500 Limited 4X4 began to immediately slow, and I observed the gear selector engage from drive to park, back to drive and back to park, and engaging the emergency brake. The vehicle ceased operating. I was able to engage the emergency flashers and restart the vehicle.

2023 Ram 1500 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Mar 23, 2024 · ODI 11579083

Was driving down the highway, warning lights on the dashboard illuminated. Lost power, engine and electrical power. Message to place Jeep in park came on. Pulled car to shoulder. It would not start for two hours. Tow truck arrived. Jeep would start. Taken to Jeep dealership and nothing was found wrong with it.

2023 Jeep Wrangler · Engine · filed with NHTSA May 16, 2023 · ODI 11522288

Truck stalled 4 times in 2 months going less than 5 mph. When driving slow around a turn or at a stop sign, the truck stalls when I give it gas. The emergency brake is automatically engaged and I have to disengage it before I can start the truck. The check engine light and battery light came on.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Stellantis S2309000007 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the S2309000007 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does S2309000007 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 5 model years across 2 brands (Jeep and Ram): 2024 Jeep Wrangler, 2023 Jeep Wrangler, 2022 Jeep Wrangler, 2023 Ram 1500, 2022 Ram 1500. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
