What it saysWarranty Bulletin D-23-04 - 2018-2023 (Current) Jeep Wrangler (JL) and 2020-2023 (Current) Jeep Gladiator (JT) - Corrosion Warranty Claim Simplification (Rev. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Jeep filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jul 12, 2023, received Sep 25, 2023, about the structure. It names 10 model years (2018–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 10 model years this bulletin names have filed 5,905 complaints with NHTSA since 2015.

On the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, the 53 owners who gave an odometer reading for Structure reported it at a median of 5,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

Military member stationed overseas. Purchased vehicle through Military Auto Source. Dealer has to take wrangler into local Jeep dealer. Dealer heard banging on right side of wheel. When local Jeep dealer completed inspection they noted the chassiss weld completely missing. This is a huge safety issue.

While driving in high winds, hood flutters.....rises up about 1/2-1 inch due to stretching of hood clamps. While it hasn't broke, I have read of it breaking on Jeep forums. I would think over time with solar exposure, temperature changes and repeated stress, the possibility of failure would be great.

When opening and closing the driver and passenger side doors, there is a noticeable clicking sound. I have since become aware that the aluminum exterior of the door is peeling away from the steel structure inside of the door resulting in this clicking sound due to the flexing of the door

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Jeep 92177 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 92177 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Stellantis warranty extension on file lists the ones Stellantis has filed.

Which vehicles does 92177 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 10 model years: 2023 Jeep Gladiator, 2022 Jeep Gladiator, 2021 Jeep Gladiator, 2020 Jeep Gladiator Pickup, 2023 Jeep Wrangler, 2022 Jeep Wrangler and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
