Infiniti filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Feb 4, 2025, received Feb 10, 2025, about the engine. It names 4 model years (2016–2018). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 4 model years this bulletin names have filed 180 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 81 of them name Engine, Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
The locks on the car automatically keep locking all day long and drain my battery, I have had to have my car jump started and recently towed to Infiniti dealer and they are stating there have been known issues with this electrical problem with rain getting into the sunroof and deteriorating the lines that short out the other systems.
2018 Infiniti Q50 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Oct 21, 2024 · ODI 11621012
The car needed new sprockets after 105K miles. I haven't seen anyone else have this problem, so my car maybe a lemon. But just in case more people start reporting it, I just want to make sure it's on record. The dealership has no idea why they'd fail, as I have had regular, full synthetic oil changes. It's a hefty repair
2017 Infiniti Q50 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Nov 17, 2022 · ODI 11494052
Internal engine mechanical issues, infiniti of bridgewater diagnosis. The engine cut off midway while driving on the highway. Vehicle received an engine replacement 1-2 years ago from Infiniti of edison (ray catena) who were shut down after the replacement. There was absolutely no warnings or problems before hand
2016 Infiniti Q50 · Engine · filed with NHTSA Dec 1, 2023 · ODI 11557870
A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Infiniti ITB17-050C a recall?
No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the ITB17-050C repair free?
Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.
Which vehicles does ITB17-050C cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 4 model years: 2018 Infiniti Q50, 2017 Infiniti Q50, 2016 Infiniti Q50, 2017 Infiniti Q60. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
