Hyundai service campaign 9C9

What it saysCertain Palisade (LX2) vehicles equipped with 3.8L GDI Lambda II engines may not meet engine-out NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and Particulate Matter (PM) emission standards. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Hyundai filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Feb 21, 2026, received Feb 10, 2026, about the engine — 4 documents under this number: 9C9 OL, 26-01-010H DCS, 26-01-010H DN, 26-01-010H TSB. It names 6 model years (2020–2025). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication
Built 10 Apr 2019 – 16 Jun 2025 “Produced from 04/10/2019 – 06/16/2025”
Engine 3.8L GDI Lambda “Certain Palisade (LX2) vehicles equipped with 3.8L GDI Lambda II engines may not meet engine-out NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and Particulate Matter (PM) emission standards.”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

Certain Palisade (LX2) vehicles equipped with 3.8L GDI Lambda II engines may not meet engine-out NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and Particulate Matter (PM) emission standards. Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 26-01-010H provides the service procedure to update the emission logic within the Engine Control Module (ECM) to improve engine-out NOx and PM emissions, so they are within permissible specifications. Additionally, improvements to reduce noise during engine start, and enhanced thermostat logic, are also included in the updated ECM software.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 2,373 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 259 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2020 Hyundai Palisade, the 15 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 25,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

The engie restarted itself after being shut off and no key was near vehicle and continued to run overnight, filing car with carbon monoxide. Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Hyundai 9C9 a recall?

No. A service campaign is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 9C9 repair free?

A service campaign is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

Which vehicles does 9C9 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years: 2025 Hyundai Palisade, 2024 Hyundai Palisade, 2023 Hyundai Palisade, 2022 Hyundai Palisade, 2021 Hyundai Palisade, 2020 Hyundai Palisade. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built 10 Apr 2019 – 16 Jun 2025 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
