Hyundai filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated Oct 9, 2026, about the engine — 3 documents under this number: 26-01-081H DCS, 26-01-081H TSB, 26-01-081H DN. It names 6 model years (2021–2024). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.

What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationWhat it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported
Source: NHTSA complaint databaseOwners of the 6 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,579 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 393 of them name Engine — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.
On the 2022 Hyundai Tucson, the 21 owners who gave an odometer reading for Engine reported it at a median of 29,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.
The vehicle is currently at the dealership. I purchased the 2022 hyundai Tucson hybrid limited in April. Have gotten my oil changes done religiously at the dealership. Vehicle is at 22k miles. And had oil change 5 days prior to incident. I was on the way to work and vehicle started to struggle to accelerate, engine began malfunctioning.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5Is Hyundai 9C7 a recall?
No. A service campaign is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.
Is the 9C7 repair free?
A service campaign is usually paid by the manufacturer on the vehicles it names, within the terms and time limit the document sets; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
Which vehicles does 9C7 cover?
The manufacturer filed it against 6 model years: 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, 2024 Hyundai Tucson, 2023 Hyundai Tucson, 2022 Hyundai Tucson. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: built 18 Dec 2020 – 28 Sep 2022; built 31 May 2021 – 14 Sep 2023; built 10 Oct 2022 – 29 Dec 2023 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
