Ford bulletin TSB 24-2092

What it saysThis article supersedes TSB 22-2281 to update the Part List. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Ford filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Apr 12, 2024, received May 2, 2024, about the power train. It names 3 model years (2019–2021). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

Superseded. Ford replaced this bulletin with TSB 25-2550 dated Jan 8, 2026. Read that one first; this page stays as the record of what was filed under TSB 24-2092.
Built 2019-2021 Transit Connect vehicles: on or before Dec 20, 2021 “Some 2019-2021 Transit Connect vehicles built on or before 20-Dec-2021 and equipped with the 8F35 transmission may exhibit transmission slipping concerns, harsh engagements and various clutch diagnostic trouble codes…”
Transmission 8F35 transmission “Some 2019-2021 Transit Connect vehicles built on or before 20-Dec-2021 and equipped with the 8F35 transmission may exhibit transmission slipping concerns, harsh engagements and various clutch diagnostic trouble codes…”

What it applies to, as NHTSA’s summary states it — build dates and equipment as the manufacturer filed them. The dealer checks the VIN and the build date on the door jamb; a vehicle outside the window is not covered by this bulletin.

This article supersedes TSB 22-2281 to update the Part List. Some 2019-2021 Transit Connect vehicles built on or before 20-Dec-2021 and equipped with the 8F35 transmission may exhibit transmission slipping concerns, harsh engagements and various clutch diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Some vehicles may also have torque converter clutch DTCs. This may be due to worn needle bearings in the output planet carrier assembly.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 3 model years this bulletin names have filed 96 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 39 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On going problem that's getting worse and have totally stopped driving the van. Transmission Severe Slipping, harsh and hard shifting, abrupt Highway deceleration & violent downshift while on the Hwy. Pauses sometimes to accelerate from a stop and sometimes lunges forward. Transmission failure in my 2.0L Ford Transit Connect at approximately 94,000 miles. When I shift into reverse, the van sometimes drives forward instead of backing up — as if the transmission is confused or stuck in the wrong gear. Over time, reverse completely stopped working altogether.

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ford TSB 24-2092 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the TSB 24-2092 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does TSB 24-2092 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 3 model years: 2021 Ford Transit Connect, 2020 Ford Transit Connect, 2019 Ford Transit Connect. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
