Ford filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jun 4, 2025, received Jun 11, 2025, about the visibility/wiper. It names 1 model year (2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication

Some 2024 Ranger vehicles may exhibit a Front Parking Sensors Not Available Sensor Blocked See Manual message displayed on the instrument panel cluster (IPC) with no DTCs in the image processing module A (IPMA) when driving in cold ambient weather conditions. The warning message may appear multiple times during a drive cycle to include initial low speed acceleration and when coming to a stop. The warning may stop reappearing after the ambient temperature rises well above freezing. If all parking sensors are free of blockages and there are no parking sensor related DTCs stored in the (IPMA), replace both front active park aid sensors (base part number: 15K859) located in the passenger and driver fender lip mouldings. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 413-13C for removal and installation procedure. For claiming, use causal part 15K859 and applicable labor operations in Section 10 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Owners of the 1 model year this bulletin names have filed 96 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 30 of them name Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Certain buttons don't work on the steering wheel. Usually temporary. Sometime the center console won't load at start up. The lane keeping system and speed control don't follow the instructions in the setup menu

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Ford SSM 53865 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the SSM 53865 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does SSM 53865 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 1 model year: 2024 Ford Ranger. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
