Audi bulletin TSB_2074857_2

What it saysThis bulletin provides information when there are noises/vibrations in tight bends; Q7 and A8 models. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Jun 20, 2025, received Jul 8, 2025, about the power train. It names 48 model years (2016–2025). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 48 model years this bulletin names have filed 978 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 66 of them name Power Train — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

On the 2019 Audi Q8, the 21 owners who gave an odometer reading for Power Train reported it at a median of 4,000 miles. That figure is one model year’s, not the whole range this bulletin covers — medians from different model years are not averaged.

This 2021 Audi SQ8 vehicle was purchased new. The vehicle features an automatic engine stop/start feature which is intended to enhance vehicle fuel economy. The incident(s) include: (1) multiple instances when slowing to a stop and the stop/start feature turned off the vehicle engine before the vehicle has come to a stop, leaving the…

2021 Audi SQ8 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Aug 27, 2021 · ODI 11430803

Auto start/stop is turning off the engine and putting the car in neutral before the vehicle is completely stopped. If you need to accelerate suddenly to clear an intersection, it takes a few seconds for it to start back up and move the vehicle. Like most people do, the throttle gets pressed harder in the hopes of the vehicle moving.

2019 Audi Q8 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Feb 26, 2020 · ODI 11311677

Vehicle engine would suddenly stop working, warning, "drive system malfunction: stop vehicle safely." It has happened 3 times within 3 days in the middle of the intersection. Dealers wouldn't take this issue seriously and they asked me to make an appointment online, which is scheduled to be 1 month away.

2019 Audi A8 · Power Train · filed with NHTSA Feb 17, 2022 · ODI 11452496

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi TSB_2074857_2 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the TSB_2074857_2 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does TSB_2074857_2 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 48 model years: 2024 Audi A8, 2023 Audi A8, 2022 Audi A8, 2021 Audi A8, 2020 Audi A8, 2019 Audi A8 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
