Audi bulletin A4723252055646_5

What it saysThis bulletin provides information regarding when the brake pedal is hard when attempting to start the vehicle. NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Audi filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Nov 22, 2023, received Dec 6, 2023, about the service brakes. It names 56 model years (2017–2023). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 56 model years this bulletin names have filed 1,923 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 62 of them name Service Brakes — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

While parked in my residential garage with the engine shut off and car door closed, the vehicle suffered an un-commanded rollaway incident due to a suspected defect in the electronic parking brake or automatic-park transmission software. The vehicle was completely stopped, the driver exited the vehicle and the driver's door was closed.

2022 Audi Q7 · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Jun 5, 2026 · ODI 11742245

This is a loaner Audi Q8 from Molly Audi of Kansas City. My 2023 Audi Q7 is in the shop for this exact same issue. The brake pedal randomly does not respond. This prevents the vehicle from being able to start, shift out of gear when parked, and the rear brake lights do not respond. My main concern is the brake lights not responding.

2023 Audi Q8 · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Aug 16, 2023 · ODI 11538953

After owning the vehicle for less than one-year (~20k) miles, the front brakes started to pulse and make noise when stopping. Stopping distance was reduced. The dealer recommended that the rotors be replaced and did so at zero cost as a courtesy. Twelve weeks later, the pulsing and noise and reduced stopping distance started again.

2023 Audi Q7 · Service Brakes · filed with NHTSA Apr 29, 2025 · ODI 11657439

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Audi A4723252055646_5 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the A4723252055646_5 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way.

Which vehicles does A4723252055646_5 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 56 model years: 2021 Audi A4, 2020 Audi A4, 2019 Audi A4, 2018 Audi A4, 2017 Audi A4, 2021 Audi A5 and more. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone.
