Alfa Romeo Giulia fuel system problems, 2017–2026
122 of the 276 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Alfa Romeo Giulia 2017–2026 name the fuel system (NHTSA’s “Fuel/Propulsion System” heading — fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors). The loudest years: 2017 (50), 2018 (40), 2019 (25). Filed under the same heading across these years: 3 recall campaigns, 1 NHTSA investigation. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the fuel system. Nothing here is a rate.
When the fuel system complaints were filed, and at what mileage

In owners’ own words

On September 1, 2024, I was driving my Giulia over a busy 4-lane overpass. An error code related to the fuel system flashed on the dashboard, and the car stopped nearly instantly in the lane where I was driving. Upon seeing the error code, I was not able to pull over into the breakdown lane - it was that sudden.
Received multiple code resulting from fuel rail, fuel pump, and fuel control module issue that cuts power when driving leading to unsafe driving situation. The car would stall in the middle of driving starving of fuel
On July 2, vehicle would not start. When pressing start button it continuously would try to crank but would not start. Check engine light, auto start on/off light, and ETC light came on. After 30-40 minute wait time, car started. Called dealer the following day but after multiple starts the lights/codes on dash went away.
While driving at approximately 45mph, the car was suddenly dropped into "limp mode" which caused a rapid deceleration, loss of power, and required pulling onto the shoulder as the car refused to accelerate.
There is an open safety recall on my vehicle since September 2025 with no updates on when a remedy will be available from Stellantis. The issue is that fuel supply to the engine can be cut off causing the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly and go LOMP.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Alfa Romeo Giulia years have the most fuel system complaints?
2017, 50; 2018, 40; 2019, 25. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2019 (54%).
Is there a recall for the fuel system on the Alfa Romeo Giulia?
Yes — 3 campaigns are filed under this heading across these model years: 25V586000 (2019), 24V306000 (2021), 21V878000 (2021). A recall is matched by VIN, and applies to specific years; check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
When do fuel system problems show up on the Alfa Romeo Giulia?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 29,000 miles across the model years; half of them between 15,000 and 70,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Fuel/Propulsion System" heading cover?
Fuel tanks, lines, pumps and injection — and on an EV, the propulsion battery and motors. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
