Counts are owner reports to NHTSA, not verified defects, and scale with how many of these were sold; nothing here is a rate. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so “Air Bags” means the same area of the vehicle, not one fault.

We recently got into an sua with our current Tesla 3. I was turning into my drive way and I came to a complete stop. While I was waiting for the gate to open and when I braked, the car suddenly sped up very fast and I stepped on the brake again but the car did not stop.
Multiple times, the passenger airbag indicator on the dashboard showed the airbag was not activate despite the passenger seat being occupied by a 112 pound person with a buckled seat belt. There is no active notification that the airbag is deactivated in the presence of indications of occupancy of that seat.
Recently we see a warning 'front passenger safety restraint system fault/contact Tesla service' i.e the air bag will not deploy initially thought this could be a bug. Tried resetting the system but not going away. This could be a serious safety issue
My wife is 5 feet tall and weighs 90 pounds. When sitting in the front passenger seat, the passenger side airbag indicator displays off. This means the passenger side airbag safety system is not available to her. The occupant classification system is failing at all times when she is in the front passenger seat
My Tesla didn't stop when I applied the brakes, I had a clear distance space between my car and the car I rear ended, any other car would have stopped when you apply the brakes but I think I felt like my car accelerated even I applied the brakes and never stopped.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsAre airbag problems common on the 2018 Tesla Model 3?
They are documented: NHTSA holds 146 owner complaints naming the airbags on this model year (14% of everything owners filed about it), and 11 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.
Is there a recall for the airbags on the 2018 Tesla Model 3?
No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 19 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.
When do airbag problems show up on the 2018 Tesla Model 3?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 20,000 miles; half of them between 8,000 and 58,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Air Bags" heading cover?
Airbags, their sensors and warning lights. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
