Problem Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles. A software error in the combination meter's electronic control unit (ECU) may cause the Instrument Panel LCD display to go blank. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays." Risk A blank display will not show critical information such as the speedometer or warning lights, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will update the combination meter ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 17, 2023. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 23TA02.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 23TA02 is the number Toyota assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 23V111000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Is 23TA02 the same recall as 23V111000?

Yes. 23TA02 is Toyota’s own number for it; 23V111000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does 23TA02 cover?

2022–2023 Toyota Tundra, 8,989 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.

Does the 23TA02 repair cost anything?

No. The manufacturer must remedy a safety defect at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from first sale.
