Problem Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles. The flange nuts on the axle shaft sub-assemblies can loosen over time and potentially cause one or both axle shaft sub-assemblies to separate from the axle housing. Risk Axle shaft separation can cause a loss of vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly, tighten the axle flange nuts, and replace any damaged axle-related components if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA05.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 22TA05 is the number Toyota assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 22V445000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
