Problem Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2022 Tundra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. The parking assist electronic control unit (ECU) software may prevent transmission of the rearview camera signal during cold weather, preventing the rearview image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility." Risk A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Dealers will reprogram the parking assist ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 2, 2022. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is 22TA04.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. 22TA04 is the number Toyota assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 22V285000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.
