Problem Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2018 Range Rover Velar vehicles. The air inlet door linkages for the ventilation system may detach, preventing the system from clearing fog or condensation from the windshield and windows. Risk If condensation or fog cannot be cleared, the driver's visibility may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software to control the length of movement of the ventilation actuator arm, free of charge. The recall began on April 16, 2018. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N143.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. N143 is the number Land Rover assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 18V139000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Which vehicles does N143 cover?

2018 Land Rover Range Rover, 7,090 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
