Problem Jaguar Land Rover North America, LCC (Jaguar) is recalling one 2016 Jaguar F-Type vehicle manufactured February 3, 2015. The affected vehicle has the power steering system still set in the supplier's factory operating mode. In this condition, in the event of a steering system malfunction, the vehicle can experience additional steering inputs from the electric power steering system. Risk If the vehicle is in motion when this occurs, the driver may unexpectedly lose the ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix Jaguar will notify the owner, and a dealer will either correct the steering system software or replace the steering rack, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin October 31, 2015. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Jaguar's number for this recall is J055.

Two numbers, one recall

Every safety recall carries two identifiers. J055 is the number Jaguar assigned in its own system: it is what appears on the owner letter, on the dealer’s service screen and on the repair order. 15V569000 is the number NHTSA filed the same recall under when the manufacturer reported it, and it is the one every federal record, this site included, is keyed on.

The repair is free by federal law for vehicles up to fifteen years old. Whether one particular vehicle is included is settled by its VIN against the manufacturer’s build list, not by its model year.

Check one specific vehicle

Both lookups check a VIN against the manufacturer’s own list and say whether the repair is still outstanding on that vehicle.

Common questions

Is J055 the same recall as 15V569000?

Yes. J055 is Jaguar’s own number for it; 15V569000 is NHTSA’s. One recall, two references.

Which vehicles does J055 cover?

2016 Jaguar F-Type, 1 vehicles by the manufacturer’s count. A recall covers a build range, so the VIN decides whether one particular vehicle is in it.
