Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the electrical system. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

Rear tail lights (brake lights) work intermittently. There is a "special coverage adjustment" but it is set for a maximum number of miles or time (6-years). I have a 2016 Gmc Yukon Xl. The passenger's side was replaced in 2018 and now the driver's side is defective/inoperable. But because we are at 96000 they won't repair
Electrical System at 96,000 miles Jun 15, 2020 NHTSA owner report
I have been notified on two occasions on the road that my tail light was out. When I was able to check them, both tail lights lit up then turned on. It must be an intermittent issue
Electrical System at 29,500 miles Feb 27, 2020 NHTSA owner report
Left and right brake/running lights work intermittently. Occasionally one side will work and the other doesn't and vise versa. More often than not, neither side works. GM knows about this defect and refuses to correct the problem that their manufacturing caused.
Electrical System at 97,000 miles Feb 11, 2020 NHTSA owner report
Rear passenger side light fixture LED failed as a result of failure of metal contact point within LED enclosure. Issue is well documented on the internet however Gmc has failed to response. Vehicle is only 3 years old with 79,300 miles. Repair cost was estimated at $913
Electrical System Dec 23, 2019 NHTSA owner report
Passenger side brake light stopped working (both in motion and stationary). It looks like many owners are also experiencing this problem, so would be great if an investigation could be started

Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communications

Are electrical problems common on the 2016 GMC Yukon?

They are documented: NHTSA holds 90 owner complaints naming the electrical system on this model year (17% of everything owners filed about it), and 844 manufacturer bulletins are filed under the same heading. Whether it is a problem on one particular car is a diagnosis, not a count, and a count says nothing about how many were sold.

Is there a recall for the electrical system on the 2016 GMC Yukon?

No recall campaign is filed under this heading for this model year (there are 5 filed under other headings). A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.

When do electrical problems show up on the 2016 GMC Yukon?

Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 45,000 miles; half of them between 30,000 and 71,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.

What does NHTSA's "Electrical System" heading cover?

Wiring, modules, batteries, charging, infotainment and driver displays — NHTSA's broadest heading. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
