Chrysler 200 engine problems, 2016–2017
153 of the 387 complaints owners filed with NHTSA about the Chrysler 200 2016–2017 name the engine (NHTSA’s “Engine” heading — the engine and its cooling system). The loudest years: 2016 (132), 2017 (21). Filed under the same heading across these years: 2 manufacturer bulletins. Every figure is a linked federal record; none is a failure rate, none a repair cost, and none a verdict on one car.

| Model year | Complaints naming the engine | Share of the year’s | Typically at | On file under the heading | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 21 | 49% | 51k | 38 TSBs | the year → |
| 2016 in depth | 132 | 38% | 45k | 67 TSBs | the record → |
Two things the counts carry that are not the car: how many of each year were sold, and how long each has been on the road — an older year out-counts a newer one before anything is wrong with it. The share column is the honest comparison across years: what part of that year’s complaints named the engine. Nothing here is a rate.
When the engine complaints were filed, and at what mileage

Across the model years, half of the 110 owners who gave an odometer reading reported the engine problem between 30,000 and 67,000 miles. A median of reports, not the life of a part.
In owners’ own words

My car makes this loud noise when the engine is on and the coolant meter reaches one bar on the screen and I don't know exactly where the noise is coming from but its not normal. Took it to a mechanic and he told me its not a problem the car is suppose to make that noise but I don't really believe him. That noise is very loud
Vehicle is stalling, completely shutting off, losing power while driving. It has done it as 20mph, 45mph, going straight, turning left, turning right. There is no notification that this is happening. The only thing I can tell it's happening is it looses power, steering locks up and the car dash says "shift to p to start vehicle".
Has happened on highway and city streets when I accelerate sometimes the rpms get stuck at 4000. And there is also lag from my acceleration when I take off and will get stuck at high rpms when I slow down while coasting and braking only way i've gotten it to stop is by tapping on my gas again
Vehicle started to stall today while driving. It stalled multiple times and one point it stalled entering a major road. It also has a kick in the engine while driving like it's changing gear. This is ridiculous if this being going on with other for these model for a while why are they still being sold.

Common questions
Source: NHTSA complaint database, recalls and manufacturer communicationsWhich Chrysler 200 years have the most engine complaints?
2016, 132; 2017, 21. Raw counts, and an older year has had longer to collect them; by share of each year's own complaints the loudest is the 2017 (49%).
Is there a recall for the engine on the Chrysler 200?
No recall campaign is filed under this heading on any of these model years. A bulletin is not a recall: it carries no federal duty to repair for free.
When do engine problems show up on the Chrysler 200?
Owners who gave an odometer reading reported it at a median of 46,000 miles across the model years; half of them between 30,000 and 67,000. That is when reports cluster, not the life of a part.
What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?
The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
