Filed with NHTSA by the people who own these cars, about the engine. Quoted as written, with anything identifying removed; unverified reports — what was said, not a finding that it was true.

I was on in Athens, Ga. Going about 65mph in the left lane, casually passing a slow truck. it was rainy, in a construction zone, heavy traffic. With no warning lights or indication there was a problem the engine suddenly died and shifted itself into neutral.
Engine Mar 6, 2025 NHTSA owner report
Without any warning driving 65 mph down a freeway the suburbans motor totally shut down. We had to cross over 2 lanes without getting hit by all the traffic. No dashboard lights ever came on until after we got onto the shoulder and sat there for an hour then the check engine light came on.
Engine Mar 2, 2025 NHTSA owner report
Traveling on through Pascagoula, Ms at approximately 70mph. The engine revved high then put itself into Neutral and shutdown. I was able to coast safely to the shoulder of the road. There had been no prior warning of potential problems. The vehicle engine seized up and could not be placed into neutral for the tow service to safely load it
Engine Feb 24, 2025 NHTSA owner report
I was cruising at 45 - 50 mph and the vehicle went into NEUTRAL, shut off, would not restart, and would not shift into drive. I pulled into a Publix. I pressed the start /Stop button and the dash turned off. I turn pressed the brake and pressed the ignition button and the Suburban started up.
Engine Feb 21, 2025 NHTSA owner report
I was driving on in rural Montana (zero cell phone coverage) on (freezing weather, snow packed roads). Without warning the suburban just shut down. It seemed to still have "power". interior lights worked ect. but the engine just died.

What does NHTSA's "Engine" heading cover?

The engine and its cooling system. Owners choose the heading when they file, so it says which area of the vehicle the complaint is about, not which part failed.
