Mercedes-Benz service campaign 2024040004
Mercedes-Benz filed this with NHTSA as a service campaign dated May 4, 2024, received May 29, 2024, about the electrical system — 1 document under this number: NCU - 2024040004. It names 3 model years (2022–2023). A service campaign is not a safety recall — there is no NHTSA campaign number and no federal requirement — but it is usually work the manufacturer pays for on the vehicles it names; the dealer checks the VIN against the manufacturer’s list.
What the bulletin says
Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communicationThis is to notify you of the Service Campaign Launch to update the SCN coding in the EIS on-board electrical system in 6,055 Model Year (“MY) 2022-2023 SL (232 platform) vehicles. The vehicles will be visible and flagged in VMI as “OPEN on May 3, 2024. Mercedes-Benz AG, the manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, has determined that on certain MY 2022-2023 SL (232 platform) vehicles, premature or unwanted smartkey recognition could slowly discharge the 12V battery. MBUSA will conduct a service campaign. An authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the SCN coding in the EIS on-board electrical system.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.
