Mazda bulletin 15-002-24

What it saysSome vehicles may experience the vehicle speed decreasing unintentionally while using MAZDA Radar Cruise Control (MRCC). NHTSA’s full summary ↓

Mazda filed this with NHTSA as a service bulletin dated Mar 19, 2024, received Apr 3, 2024, about the forward collision avoidance. It names 2 model years (2024). A service bulletin is not a safety recall: it is the manufacturer telling its dealers how to diagnose or repair a condition, and whether the work is paid for depends on the warranty in force. Quoting the number at a service desk can save a diagnosis.

What the bulletin says

Source: NHTSA's summary of the manufacturer's communication
2024 Mazda3 (Japan built) before 17 Nov 2023 “Produced before Nov. 17, 2023”
2024 Mazda3 (Mexico built) before 26 Oct 2023 “Produced before Oct. 26, 2023”
2024 CX-30 (Mexico built) before 26 Oct 2023 “Produced before Oct. 26, 2023”

What it applies to, as the document itself states it — the build window in the manufacturer’s own words, read by machine from the PDF NHTSA serves. The build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb; the dealer settles a borderline vehicle by its VIN.

Some vehicles may experience the vehicle speed decreasing unintentionally while using MAZDA Radar Cruise Control (MRCC). This may occur when a vehicle in the adjacent lane is misidentified as being in its own lane, and the MRCC controls decelerate accordingly. This concern is caused by improper control software of the Vehicle Control Module (VCM). To eliminate this concern, the VCM control software has been modified.

Read by machine from the document NHTSA serves (3 pages), read Sep 30, 2026. A part number is shown only where it matches Mazda’s own catalogue shape, an operation only with its code and time, and a description only where the reader got it whole; anything it could not settle is left out, and the PDF is the record. Times are the manufacturer’s warranty allowances, not a quote. Listings and prices on eBay Motors are the seller’s.

The summary is NHTSA’s abstract of the document, as filed under 49 CFR 579.5. One communication is usually filed as several documents — the bulletin, a dealer notice, an owner letter — and the number on any of them finds this page. A PDF link is shown only once NHTSA’s own server has been seen to serve that document; the rest are checked over the following nights. Quote the number at a service desk; it is what the dealer’s system is keyed on.

Doing the repair yourself, or pricing it before the shop does? Search the part by fitment on eBay Motors — the listing and the price are the seller’s.

What owners reported

Source: NHTSA complaint database

Owners of the 2 model years this bulletin names have filed 46 complaints with NHTSA since 2015. 31 of them name Forward Collision Avoidance, Electrical System — the same broad component group this bulletin is filed under. NHTSA groups complaints coarsely, so that means the same area of the vehicle, not necessarily the same fault.

Cruise control and lane keeping system engaged. Vehicle will occasionally aggressively apply brakes, when nothing visible is in front of the vehicle. This has nearly cause our car to be rear ended on a number of occasions. I suspect the system mistakenly interprets a building or vehicle shadow as a physical object.

2024 Mazda CX-30 · Forward Collision Avoidance · filed with NHTSA Feb 7, 2026 · ODI 11716422

I was denied work on a network issue recall 3 separate times at the dealership I bought the car. The first time I was told it was because of a smell. If I clean the car, they will fix it. I noticed after they were in the car my backup camera didn’t work which I also thought might be a recall but found out it wasnt.

2024 Mazda Mazda3 · Electrical System · filed with NHTSA Aug 7, 2026 · ODI 11755539

The vehicle intermittently fails to start when pressing the push-button start system. The start/stop button becomes unresponsive despite normal conditions (key present, brake engaged, no warning indicators preventing ignition).

A complaint is one owner’s account, not a defect finding, and a bulletin is not a recall. Nothing here says this bulletin was issued because of these complaints, or that the repair it describes fixed them. Complaint files on this site begin in 2015.

Common questions

Source: NHTSA, 49 CFR 579.5

Is Mazda 15-002-24 a recall?

No. A service bulletin is a manufacturer communication filed with NHTSA under 49 CFR 579.5; a safety recall carries an NHTSA campaign number (two digits, a letter, six digits) and a federal duty to repair for free. Check the vehicle’s recalls by VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, or on its page here.

Is the 15-002-24 repair free?

Not automatically. A service bulletin describes how to diagnose or repair a condition; who pays depends on the warranty in force, any extension, and the dealer. Quoting the number can save a diagnosis either way. Every Mazda warranty extension on file lists the ones Mazda has filed.

Which vehicles does 15-002-24 cover?

The manufacturer filed it against 2 model years: 2024 Mazda CX-30, 2024 Mazda Mazda3. Whether one particular vehicle is affected is a matter of its VIN and its build, not its model year alone. The document itself sets the build window: 2024 Mazda3 (Japan built): built before 17 Nov 2023; 2024 Mazda3 (Mexico built): built before 26 Oct 2023; 2024 CX-30 (Mexico built): built before 26 Oct 2023 — the build date is on the certification label in the driver’s door jamb.
